Opportunities at MSI
The Mountain Studies Institute (MSI) is a not-for-profit mountain research and education institution in Silverton, Colorado. MSI’s mission is to enhance understanding and sustainable use of the San Juan Mountains through research, education, and outreach. MSI facilitates and conducts field research, academic courses, and experiential learning. Additionally, MSI provides facilities and support for researchers, educators, and the general public who are interested learning from and experiencing the San Juan Mountain region. MSI collaborates with our partners to provide problem-oriented, interdisciplinary research, monitoring, public forums, courses, and conferences that address relevant community challenges, evaluate information needs, and seek solutions for natural resource issues. MSI provides learning opportunities to professionals, scientists, graduate and undergraduate students, resource management personnel and policy makers, K-12 teachers and the general citizenry, based on knowledge gained from research efforts at MSI and elsewhere.
To accomplish these goals, MSI operates a Silverton office and field station that are designed to support scientific research and education by preserving access and permits to study areas and organisms, by providing facilities and equipment in close proximity to those study areas, and by fostering an atmosphere of mutual scientific interest, inspiration, and collaboration.
MSI is currently hiring a Research Director and 2013 Summer Interns. For more information, visit MSI Employment Opportunities.
