MSI’s FLIP cohort of 9 interns is half-way through their 11 week internship. They will be gathering in Silverton to plant trees as part of a reclamation effort at the Brooklyn Mine – an abandoned mine site. We will be working with Gretchen Fitzgerald, USFS forester and mentor of one of the FLIP interns. We will be planting about 300 spruce trees and using biochar to help remediate the soil. Later in the day, interns will practice science communication by presenting locally and/or topically relevant scientific articles to the group and offering one another feedback.
