The Mancos Watershed Group is hosting our fall meeting focused on Beaver In SW Colorado with a suite of presentations addressing key information and questions about beaver, their role, and strategies for restoration. on September 21st from 4-6pm via the Zoom link below. We have an exciting list of speakers and hope you are able to join us.

Please feel free to pass this invitation on to anyone you feel may be interested in attending and reach out with any questions you may have prior to the 21st.

We hope to "see" you there!

Speakers:

Jessica Doran – EcoMetrics Colorado

Jessica’s talk explores the history of beavers in Colorado headwaters and why it makes sense to work with the ecosystem engineers as partners in restoration, rather than as products or tools for restoration.  We will discuss practical approaches to beaver-related restoration including beaver relocation/reintroduction, conflict resolution, mimicry, and treatments aimed at promoting beaver activity.

Andrew Spear – Mesa Verde National Park

Drew will be discussing the planning and development processes for Mesa Verde National Park's Desert Fish Habitat Partnership project, expectations for the Fall's implementation, and opportunities for hands-on Low Tech Process Based Restoration experience.

Hannah Ertl and Colin Larrick – Ute Mountain Ute Tribe

Hannah is the Tribe’s Biologist and restoration project manager. Colin is the Tribes Water Program Manager. They will be talking about beaver from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe’s perspective.

Jackie Corday – Corday Natural Resource Consulting

Jackie Corday was formerly in charge of CPW's statewide Water Resources Section where she did extensive research to understand the hydrological effects of low-tech process based restoration in order to address any water rights issues. During that time (2016-2019), DWR also raised the issue of beavers potentially impacting water rights, so she researched that issue as well and will cover both during her talk.
