2015 San Juan Mining and Reclamation Conference
The 2015 San Juan Mining and Reclamation Conference will explore the legacy and future of mining in the San Miguel Watershed, focusing on the hard rock gold and silver mines in the upper basins, coal on the mesas, and uranium/vanadium operations in the desert reaches. The primary goals of this annual conference are to educate the public and other stakeholders on the science and policy of mining, mine lands remediation, and water quality as it relates to non-point source pollution, improving mining practices, and addressing water quality impairments through workshops, field tours, and presentations.
This years conference will be held in Mountain Village, CO and the San Miguel Watershed. Each year the conference is hosted in a different San Juan community to highlight the host area’s mining heritage and successes in conducing mine remediation and water quality improvement projects. May 28th we will tour mining and reclamation sites in the San Miguel watershed. May 29th will feature speakers, panel discussion, and poster session at the Peaks Lodge in Mountain Village.
Additional presentations and workshops by diverse speakers (industry professionals, watershed groups, government personnel, citizens, and research scientists) from across the State of Colorado highlight innovative approaches for environmentally and economically viable solutions to mine remediation and water quality restoration. The unique, two-day San Juan Mining Conference addresses the need for citizens’ increased awareness and scientific literacy of the environment and environmental issues related to water quality impairments from mining activities. The first day of the conference will be held in the field. If you would like to purchase a box lunch for $15.00, please select your option when you register.
Lodging
The Peaks Resort is offering a discounted rate, $150 a night, to conference attendees and includes access to the Peaks Spa amenities. This rate is offered two days before and after the conference if you would like to extend your stay. To book a room at The Peaks Resort, call 970.728.6800 and reference the name of the conference, San Juan Mining and Reclamation, to secure the discounted rate. You are not required to stay at The Peaks Resort, but that is the most convenient lodging option.
