The Animas Forks Rehabilitation Project was selected by History Colorado to receive the 2017 Stephen H. Hart Award for Historic Preservation. MSI would like to congratulate our partners, San Juan County Historical Society, San Juan County, Bureau of Land Management, Town of Silverton, Silverton Restoration Inc, Klinke and Lew Construction, and Alpine Archaeology, for this highest honor and recognition for their dedication. The 30+ year effort has preserved this incredible icon of mining history and heritage in the Alpine Loop outside of Silverton.  History Colorado began presenting the Stephen H. Hart Awards in 1986 to recognize outstanding projects and individual achievements in archaeology and historic preservation throughout Colorado.  Stephen H. Hart was Colorado’s first State Historic Preservation Officer.  MSI is proud to support these same partners in stabilizing the Sound Democrat Mill, our current project for 2017, which is above Animas Forks.
