About
Team up with other high school students from around Southwest Colorado and leading experts in climate and environment issues to engage in real-world research. Study snowpack, water quality, air pollution and other issues we face in the Southwest and around the world.
The Environment & Climate Institute (ECI) kick off is a 5-day summer program, and continues as a curricular and extracurricular program featuring Mountain Studies Institute field trips, student project and presentation opportunities, and innovative college-level coursework to keep your curiosity piqued. You'll also have access to FLC student mentors, mobile learning labs, and more.
ECI is open to all high school students living in Bayfield, Durango, Silverton, Archuleta, and Ignacio school districts. And it's free. Participating students will have the opportunity to meet like-minded peers who are passionate about their community and their roles in protecting it. Students will engage in topics focused on climate and the environment through a broad array of perspectives ranging from science to the humanities.
