COVID-19 UPDATE

Your health is our top priority. We believe we are stronger together, that our research must continue safely, and that our mountains and rivers are essential.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

There is so much happening in the world right now that is beyond our control. We are being put to the test, pushed and pulled, wondering how much longer this will go on. Here at Mountain Studies Institute, we are choosing to look ahead with hope. There is peace in our mountains, refreshment in our rivers, and deep joy in high alpine lakes. We want you to know that through this pandemic, MSI remains committed to our work, our employees, and most of all to serving you.

We are responsibly continuing our research. Our staff is adhering to the highest levels of safety protocols, and self-quarantining when returning from out-of-town projects. We plan on reinstating volunteer events and have created a detailed safety plan to protect all staff and participants.

Just as scientists are collecting data regarding the spread and prevention of COVID, we too continue to monitor changes in our rivers and soil stability to find answers to our questions. The health of our environment is intricately tied to our personal health.

Thank you for continuing to support MSI’s mission. Yes, challenges and uncertainty remain, but this is what motivates us as scientists and educators to keep probing, questioning, and discovering. Let’s view this time as an opportunity to learn more about our ever-changing environment, and more importantly, to support one another.

Be well and stay safe,

Your friends at MSI

For Volunteers

Our volunteer days are a great way to get involved with our projects, and your safety is our top priority. We have developed volunteer COVID guidelines including taking limited numbers of volunteers, maintaining social distancing, providing masks and hand washing stations, and more.

For Project Partners

MSI is following all local, state and federal COVID guidelines and requirements. We have applied for and received the essential services designation for La Plata and San Juan counties. We are able to continue all planned projects for this year and will do so in a safe and responsible manner.

For Our Communities

Our staff has been trained in all COVID guidelines for field safety and responsible travel. We hold our communities’ safety as top priority. Our staff has read and signed local COVID agreements in addition to our regular project contracts.

For Donors

MSI is grateful for your continued support. Your financial contributions allow us to continue to innovate research and education opportunities to meet your evolving needs. As we will not be hosting our annual fundraising event Moving Mountains in person this year, we greatly appreciate your virtual participation and online donations. Please visit MSI’s Donate page, as your donation means even more than ever!
